Goals The aim of this course is to support students’ development of fundamental statistical and probabilistic concepts and ideas and establish meaningful relationships among these concepts and ideas develop their statistical thinking and reasoning skills.
Course Content Fundamental concepts, frequency distributions, histogram and frequency polygon, graphical representation of classified data and its application. Parametric and nonparametric central tendency measurements. Skewness and kurtosis. Fundamental concepts of probability theory. Rules of sum and product. Bayes theorem. Table of probability distribution. Expected value and applications. Fundamental concepts in piecewise probability distribution. Binomial, Poisson and Hypergeometric distributions.
Learning Outcomes - Students will be able to prepare activities for effective learning by taking into account the basis of concepts related to probability and statistics and the learning theories.
- Students will be able to analyze students’ probabilistic and statistical thinking.
- Students will be able to acknowledge the importance of tools, materials, and technology used in teaching of probability and statistics.
- Students will be able to design and implement a lesson plan on topics in the middle school mathematics curriculum.
