Goals The aim of this lecture is to get detailed knowledge about types of plant stress, to learn factors causing stress and to understand the stress mechanisms.
Course Content The terminology of stress, Factors limiting plant growth, Water deficit and drought resistance, Heat stress and heat shock, Chilling and freezing, Salinity stress, Oxygen deficiency, Oxidative and osmotic stress, Nutrient deficiency, Heavy metal stress, High and low light stress, Wound and biotic stress, Presentation and discussion about scientific papers
Learning Outcomes

1 1. To learn plant responses to environmental stress conditions and interaction between these responses.
2 2. To understand the adaptation mechanisms of plants in stress conditions.
3 3. To learn the stress related protein synthesis and metabolite production under stress adaptation conditions.
4 4. To learn the protection roles of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems in preventing oxidative damage.
5 5. To make students follow current developments in this field of research by reading/discussing new research papers and to evaluate.
6 6. To be able to share information about plant stress physiology by oral and written language.
7 7. To understand experimental logic, analysis and the problem solving of the relations between plant and stress.
