| Goals | The aim of this course is to enable students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature of science within the scope of Philosophy of Science and Epistemology; to raise awareness about the formation, structure, and characteristics of scientific knowledge; and to help them comprehend the impact of different scientific paradigms on the development of natural sciences. In addition, it aims to support students in interpreting concepts related to the nature of science within the context of science education, developing scientific literacy skills, and designing effective classroom practices for teaching the nature of science. Furthermore, the course seeks to evaluate the nature of science within the framework of Science-Technology-Society-Environment relationships. |
| Course Content | Philosophy of science (its meaning and scope, paradigms, philosophical movements, and their impact on the development of natural sciences); the nature of knowledge (ontology, epistemology, the nature of scientific concepts, scientific knowledge and its characteristics); concepts related to the nature of science and instructional approaches (science, scientific knowledge and its characteristics, scientific literacy and the nature of science, the place of the nature of science in science curricula, teaching the nature of science); classroom activities for teaching the nature of science; and the relationship between the nature of science and science, technology, society, and the environment. |
