Goals The main objective of this course is to give students relevant general taxonomic features of the systematic categories of the marine Agnatha, cartilaginous and bony fish, diagnostic morphological features of genera and species from each family present in Turkish seas, their habitats, distributions in seas.
Course Content Introduction to Marine fish systematic, Teams of Turkish Marine Fishes , Cartilaginous fishes (Chondrichthyes), Marine Bony Fishes, Acipenseriformes, Anguilliformes, Clupeiformes Osmeriformes, Stomiiformes, Aulopiformes, Myctophiformes, Lampriformes, Gadiformes, Ophidiiformes, Lophiiformes, Gobiesociformes, Atheriniformes, Cyprinodontiformes, Beloniformes, Beryciformes, Zeiformes, Gasterosteiformes, Syngnathiformes, Scorpaeniformes, Perciformes, Pleuronectiformes, Tetraodontiformes, Lessepsian species.
Learning Outcomes - After completing the course, the students should be able to; Knowledge: Places of Marine fishes in Taxonomy and Latin names, classification of fishes in our seas, the fundamentals of classification of marine fish species, distinctive features of genera and species distribution of these species in our seas. Skill: Ability to identify marine fish species in our seas. Competence: Put in use knowledge/skill acquired during the course in work and field environment effectively.
