Goals | The aim is to raise a youth that is conscious of national, humanitarian, spiritual, and cultural values, who, as a member of the Republic of Turkey founded by the great Atatürk, is aware of their duties and responsibilities towards the state; who believes that the Turkish state is an indivisible whole with its country and nation and takes rightful pride in this; who deeply understands and sincerely adopts the principles of Atatürk; who strives to be more useful to their homeland, drawing strength from these beliefs; who thinks and acts democratically, possesses a scientific mindset, loves and respects humanity, is respectful of human rights, demonstrates a questioning and critical attitude, comprehends the events of their time, develops a scientific perspective on historical events, and aims to reach the level of contemporary civilizations. |
Course Content | Reforms in the Political Field: The abolition of the caliphate and the declaration of the Republic. Steps taken for the establishment of the new state; political parties and events during Atatürk's era. These include the Republican People's Party (Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası), the Progressive Republican Party (Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası), and the Free Republican Party (Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası). Relations between the government and the opposition. Democratization of political and social life, and the challenges of transitioning to a multi-party system in Turkey. Reforms in the Legal Field: Legal reforms to modernize the country. Reforms in Social and Economic Life: Reforms to regulate social and economic life. Reforms in Education: Establishment of modern, secular educational institutions. Reforms in the Cultural Field: The relationship between the formation of the nation-state and national culture. Economic Reforms: Restructuring the economy through the establishment of the nation-state. Strategies and practices of the new Turkish economy. Atatürk's Foreign Policy I (1923-1930): Relations with European countries following the Treaty of Lausanne (1923). Atatürk's Foreign Policy II (1930-1938): Relations with European states, particularly with totalitarian regimes in continental Europe. Relations with the Soviet Union and the United States. The impact of foreign policy on social and intellectual life. Atatürk’s Principles: Republicanism, Nationalism, Secularism; Populism, Statism, Revolutionism, and Integrative Principles. Post-Atatürk Turkish Foreign Policy (1938-1960): İsmet İnönü's presidency. The effects of World War II on Turkish foreign policy, political life, and social life. Changes in Turkish Political Life After WWII: Characteristics of changes in political life after WWII: the establishment of the multi-party system. The 1946 Elections in Turkey. Relations between the government and opposition, and the founding of the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party in Power (1950-1960): Transformation in domestic and foreign policies. End of the Cold War: The collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, the disintegration of Yugoslavia, and their impact on Turkish internal and foreign policies. |
