Goals Teaching theoretical and practical information about separation and purification methods used in drug analysis, various chromatographic techniques and determination of physical parameters.
Course Content
Learning Outcomes - Gains knowledge about the definition of chromatography, classification of chromatographic techniques, principles of chromatographic techniques (adsorption, partition, ion exchange, gel filtration, reversed phase, ion pair and affinity chromatography).
- Learns and applies the principles of paper chromatography, thin layer chromatography and column chromatography.
- Have knowledge about ion exchange chromatography, gas chromatography and capillary electrophoresis methods.
- Learns and applies high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
- Learns the separation of solid-solid and liquid-liquid mixtures.
- Learns the determination methods of physical parameters such as molecular weight, density, melting and boiling point, refractive index and optical rotation angle and applies some of them.
- Applies pharmacopoeia analysis.
- Applies chromatographic methods in drug metabolism studies.
