Goals Providing basic knowledge on pests, diseases and weeds causing economical losses on agricultural crops and teaching control methodologies against these problems.
Course Content Topics like Insects in systematics, related animal groups, economical importance of insects, plant protection organisation in Turkey will be covered. Exterior styructure of insects (body integument, head, extremites, thorax and extremites, abdomen and extremites) inspected in detail, Structure and function of internal organs (muscle, digestion, excretion, circulation, respiratory and nervous systems, sense organs, sound producing organs, light emitting organs) inveastigated, Production and development in insects (production types, insect eggs, embrionic development, larval stages, metamorphosis an pupa types in insects) will be covered, Insect ecology (general ecological information, limiting factors, biotic and abiotic factors), Information on Acari, nematodes and other general pests, Reviewing pest control, economical face of control strategies, kultural practices, biological control, physical control, Integrated anagement and chemical control strategies, History of phytopathology, the term "disease" in plants, importance of plant diseases, Classification of plant diseases, main causes of abiotic diseases, General information and classification of fungi, major fungal diseases, General information and classification of bacteria, major bacterial diseases. General information and classification of viruses, major viral diseases, General information and classification of weeds, major parasitic weeds, epidemy of weeds, Control of plant diseases, (hygene and therapy).
Learning Outcomes - Gaining knowledge on plant pest and pathogens, and basic related terminology
- Obtain information on relation of pests and diseases and environmental factors, learning pest-host relations
- Symptoms of plans pest and diseases, classification of these factors
- Gain knowledge on pest and disease control strategies
- Carries out plant protection activities and gains experience in the greenhouse.
