Goals Introduce students to the history, concepts, principles, marketing, planning and management of ecotourism activities
Course Content Course orientation: syllabus, examination and attendance policy, assignments, course format, textbooks and other resources required for the course. The introduction of nature conservation, wildlife and biodiversity, The value of natural resources and reason of nature conservation, Nature-human relations and reason of environmental problems, Historical development of nature conservation, current situation, sustainable development and environment ethics, International conventions about nature and environmental conservation, national and international organizations, Historical development of protected areas, classification and management objectives, Protected areas management, land use planning and system planning relations national parks concept, management objectives and selection criteria, Planning process in national parks and limiting the usage, Protected areas - tourism relations, implementations, problems and solutions, Classification of protected areas in Turkey and legal and administrative framework of these areas, General view of nature protection in Turkey, management and implementations regarding problems, Evaluating efficiency of protected area management
Learning Outcomes - Appreciate the scope of sustainable ecotourism and protected areas management
- Knowledge of current trends in ecotourism
- 3. Understand the structure and function of ecology and related environmental impacts in managing resources for ecotourism and protected areas;
- Awareness of conserving natural resources and maintaining the integrity of the indigenous culture
- Discuss aspects of planning for sustainable ecotourism and protected areas
- Demonstrate knowledge of the business requirements of sustainable ecotourism and protected areas management
- Ability to identify ecotourism markets
- Developing a feasibility study for potential ecotourism projects.
