Goals This course aims to introduce the fundamentals of writing in order to enable the students to acquire composition skills at the sentence, paragraph, and essay level. The course also aims at developing fluency and style by focusing on word and sentence variety and increasing learners' lexical knowledge.
Course Content Paragraph forms and structure; technical specifications of paragraph; paragraph analysis; extraction of paragraph plan; exposition, description, narration. Technical specifications of essays; essay analysis; extraction of essay plan. Creating well-organized coherent essays: exposition, description, narration. Peer-editing. Grammar Review. Vocabulary Development.
Learning Outcomes - Use the steps of the writing process: pre-writing, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Use complex and compound sentence structures.
- Differentiate among different kinds of essays
- Write paragraphs and essays in a variety of rhetorical modes including exposition, description, and narration.
- Revise and edit work to improve content, organization, word choice, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Use instructional technologies in the writing process, including research and documentation
