Goals To help the students recognize, describe, and explain certain grammatical aspects of English and to compare and contrast these with those of Turkish in order to point out the difficulties that a native speaker of Turkish might encounter while learning English.
Course Content Advanced level structures (e.g. word classes, elements of the sentence, types of sentence, sentence fragments etc.) of different types of texts on a contextual level, evaluation of the most problematic forms of English grammar with guidance in their function and usage using methods such as error analysis or discourse analysis, presenting a descriptive review of the forms and function of advanced English grammar structure, the use of these structures in various contexts.
Learning Outcomes - Students will be able to compare the case systems of English and Turkish.
- Students will discuss the role of word order in English and Turkish.
- Students will be able to define and explain transitivity.
- Students will be able to recognize and distinguish the different types of clauses.
- Students will be able to recognize, explain and use voice in English and Turkish
