[] About Program
As a result of recent developments in pharmaceutics and medical care, and growing consciousness towards individual health; the life expectancy among societies is increasing.  This situation has also led to an increase in the aged population of our country. However, the growing number of aged population has brought social, psychological and medical problems that need to be resolved urgently.

The social realities; such as shifting from traditional large families to nuclear ones and the increase in the number of working members within families have make it difficult for elderly members to live with their families. Thus, the physiological and psychological changes caused by aging have increased the need for elderly care. This situation had aroused the need for staff who will work for the well being of aged population in collaboration with the existing professionals during the hospitalization of aged population.

In the light of abovementioned facts, Duzce University had founded the "Elderly Care Program". The main purpose of this program is to educate professionals who;

     Are able to prepare and offer medical and psychological environments     required to fulfill the care for elderly people,
     Are capable of contributing to the improvement of quality of elderly people’s lives,
     Are capable of implementing solution during the implication of elderly care practices,
     Have the ability to think analytically,
     Prone to teamwork,
     Have a sense of responsibility

The principals of the program are composed of competencies such as knowing the basic needs of elderly people and acting in accordance with these requirements. In order to achieve this, students are required to take courses such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, social services, aged care policy and practice, gerontology, medical deontology, and ethics. Addition to these courses all graduates have the opportunity to follow applied workshops which will be held in the contractual health institutions of our university.

Graduates of this program will have an “Elderly Care” associate degree.  Our graduates will have the opportunity to be employed by public and private hospitals, social security institutions that are responsible for elderly care, and community dwellings.

In accordance with the relevant legislation, graduates of the program have the opportunity for bachelor degree completion by entering the transfer exam.

[] Admission Requirements

The admissions of students to the programs are made according to the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Center about what programs they want to study at, students are placed in the related programs according to their scores they got from the exam. 

Foreign students are admitted to the related programs with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programs with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programs for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programs are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enroll into the courses in this program, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the program.

[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 120 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided.Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

1 Have a sound knowledge of Turkish language, read and understand formal and technical documents in Turkish, and write documents in Turkish when necessary.
2 Be fluent in a foreign language, read and understand technical documents written in a foreign language required in their profession, and communicate in written or oral form using a foreign language at a level required in their profession.
3 Have proper knowledge about the history of the Republic of Turkey and Atatürkist ideology, and think in a modern and scientific way in line with Atatürk’s principles and Reforms.
4 Have a basic knowledge of computers and use professional software and hardware in health services, and use office applications to send and respond to e-mails, prepare basic spreadsheets and prepare presentations.
5 Practising health promotion, maintenance, treatment and rehabilitation of elderly persons.
6 Adopting humanistic and holistic care approaches.
7 Set up effective and successful interpersonal communication.
8 Using critical thinking and problem solving skills.
9 Be aware of social, scientific and professional ethical values.
10 Being compatible with teamwork.
11 Embracing the principles of lifelong learning.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

Students continue their graduate education with DGS exam. They complete license program in Elder Care Nutrition and Dietetics , Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Nursing and Health Services degree programs.

[] Program Structure
The main objective of Elderly Care division, the elderly individual's physical, mental and social aspects of maintenance work in accordance with specified requirements, bringing elderly care business, family and the community to participate in the home or institution, in collaboration with health team members, older individuals who provide care to train graduates. Department of Elderly Care, internal and external activities and tasks, depending on the framework of the vision is drawn through the dean and the rector shall be executed by the parent organizations. Department of Elderly Care, educates students to be employed in many areas of elderly care is given. Stakeholders interact, and interaction is required the Department of Elderly Care Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Security Ministry, in particular the Directorate of Social Services, Public and private nursing homes / nursing homes / rehabilitation centres, Universities, Research Institutions Health-load Schools, Alumni, Summarized in the form of individuals and Families. The education and research with a faculty member with the department staff is working to give students the best education. Our students and faculty in their response to nursing homes, homes for the elderly by making the application, develop skills related to elderly care. In addition, their application areas, social projects are developing a positive way by improving communication between departments and the community. In order to obtain bachelor’s degree students in the front section of the Elderly Care program of required and elective courses (a total of 120 ECTS) and successfully complete all of the grade point average on a 4.00 weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 would need to achieve.
