of Biology, belonging to Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Düzce
University founded in 2006, started its educational program in 2009 and
its language of education is Turkish. Department of Biology, giving
undergraduate education in various fields of biology since the day it
was founded. Department of Biology
gives daytime education. Academic staff consists of four professor, four associate professor, one assistant professors, one research
assistant. Department of Biology has two student laboratories
and eight research laboratories and great effort is spent for keeping
up with the technological advances. Therefore, we have modern classes
and laboratories for students. Department of Biology consists of five
subdepartments such as General Biology, Botany, Zoology, Hydrobiology and Molecular Biology.
Düzce University Department of Biology undertakes the mission of training qualified biologists who adopt the basic principles of science, demand to discover the world, are creative, contribute to the development of international science, produce value, attach value to ethical values and respect differences for the society and the science world, and to create, expand and apply information by using research facilities in accordance with the requirements of the present era.
The vision of Biology Department is to contribute to the development of our university by being followed and primarily demanded nationally and internationally, maintaining this with high quality products and taking part in shaping the future with consultancy, research and publications.
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Bachelor's Degree in Department of Biology.

[] Admission Requirements
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.
Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).
The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.
Recognition of Education Abroad
DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.
Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.
In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.
At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.
[] Description of Program
The objective of the undergraduate programme in Biology is to bring up
individuals who will be aware of the big role and importance of analytical and
critical thinking, sensitive towards the social problems; therefore, they will
be able to analyze the problems also find solutions to these problems. The
programme also is aiming to bring up individuals who are interested in
researches and they will have the chance to to catch the opportunity to find
satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and
research centers, both in private and state sectors.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates
Some
graduates of Biology undergraduate programme are continuing their
academic career. Some graduates are working in middle schools or in
private or state sectors where biologists are hired. Also, they
have the opportunity to work at laboratories of private institutions and as researcher in
various Ministries.
[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
Graduate students of biology programme may apply to study in graduate programmes.
*Biology undergraduate programme was schemed to be a programme where formal education with 160 local credits and 240 ECTS credits is given to students.
* The programme has common courses designated by University Senate along with the compulsory common courses and English course partaking in Higher Education Law.
* Students are not required to particapate in any summer practice to be graduated.

[] Graduation Requirements
The
total amount of local credits students need to complete to graduate
from the department of Biology is 160, 21 of which constituted by
elective courses, and the total amount of ECTS credit amount specified
is 240 by completing 30 at each semester. The period of study for the
department of Biology consists of 4 years. In every semester, there are
assessment tools such as midterm exam, homework, project, etc during the
14 weeks of semester and a final exam at the end of the semester.
