[] About Program

In developing countries, one of the most common problem is about health care system. Besides, problems with the health care system in developed countries, are solved by well-trained manpower.Nowadays in Turkey, drastic changes are made for the development of emergency medical services. The most important of these changes is to ensure a well-equipped ambulance service. In order to give a quality ambulance service, fully equipped health workers are needed.The aim of this program is to educate First and Emergency Aid Technicians who can give treatment and care service at first sight during an illness or accident and transport the patient or the injured person with an equipped ambulance to the hospital.

The duration of this program is 2 years.  In addition to theoretical and practical classes, students will do a summer internship applications for 30 days in the 4th semester.

Our goal;  students who graduate from this program can be used  the professional knowledge and skills in line with innovations in medicine, communicate effectively, which can be grown as an individual is suitable for teamwork.

In the field of health; prepared in accordance with international professional degree programs through educational, scientific, technological, in line with contemporary values​​, equipped with superior knowledge and skills, pre-hospital emergency medical services, basic and advanced life support for injured patients andcapable of all kinds of appropriate emergency management system can recognize the trauma of the firstinterventions were sick or injured people to hospitals by ambulance in a safe manner that would enable the technician to educate health care.

[] Admission Requirements
The admissions of students to the programs are made according to the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Center about what programs they want to study at, students are placed in the related programs according to their scores they got from the exam. Graduates of related vocational high schools can enroll in the department within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC).

Foreign students are admitted to the related programs with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programs with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programs for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programs are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enroll into the courses in this program, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the program.

Emergency Medical Technician of the Health Professions High School Emergency and First Aid Program,  according to the YGS-2 score results will be taken by the central placement of students by OSYM. 

[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 120 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided.Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.
[] Description of Program

The aim of the program is to train qualtified healtht technicians who are able to give basic and advanced life support to the patients and sufferers at the period of pre- hospital ,and identify the possible critic cases, and apply emergency care, and transport the patients and the wounded who are given the first aid to the hospital with an ambulance. The program’s period of study is four semesters ( inculiding internship ) an internship is made at the end of the  two semesters.

1 Be fluent in a foreign language, read and understand technical documents written in a foreign language required in their profession, and communicate in written or oral form using a foreign language at a level required in their profession.
2 Have a basic knowledge of computers and use professional software and hardware in health services, and use office applications to send and respond to e-mails, prepare basic spreadsheets and prepare presentations.
3 Have a sound knowledge of Turkish language, read and understand formal and technical documents in Turkish, and write documents in Turkish when necessary.
4 Have proper knowledge about the history of the Republic of Turkey and Atatürkist ideology, and think in a modern and scientific way in line with Atatürk’s principles and Reforms.
5 First and access to basic scientific knowledge in the Emergency Area, has the knowledge and skills evaluation and implementation.
6 Disorders affecting patients of all ages and knows aspects of injury requiring immediate attention.
7 Has the skills needed for diagnosis and treatment of emergency.
8 Adopting humanistic and holistic care approaches.
9 Be aware of social, scientific and professional ethical values.
10 It adopts the teamwork involved in emergency health care unit where.
11 Establish effective and successful communication with patients and families in critical situations.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates

The graduates work as ‘ paramedics ‘in public and private health institutions and organizations. The graduates work mainly fort he units which give emergency health services of health services of health instutions and other instutions and organizations. Employment fields are the Emergency Services, 112 Emergency Stations, 112 Command Control Centres, Privates Ambulance Services etc. Of the  public and private with/ without beds health institutions and organizations under the Health Ministry. They can be appointed as Paramedics ( Health Tecnicians ) in accordance with the Public Personal Selection Examination.( KPSS).


[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

The students of First Aid and Emergency progra​m can be transferred to the undergraduate programs of "Emergency Service and Disaster Management", "Nursing Care", and "Nursing and Health Services" via the External Transfer Examination (DGS).

[] Program Structure

Curriculum, contemporary first and Urgent Care is designed to provide the fundamentals of technician. Our first year courses mainly including compulsory courses for students with different levels of information to bring the same level of information mainly anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, medical terminology course provides. The program's aim of pre-hospital care that defines the legal authority and responsibility within the framework could, the sick and wounded in hospital based treatment is made in the period up life-saving and disability preventive medical interventions that may lead to professional-level health personnel to train.

[] Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the Primary and Emergency Aid Program, the total number of national credits that students must complete is 101, with a total of 20 elective courses. The total amount of ECTS credits is determined as 30 for each semester. The duration of the first and immediate aid program is 2 years.

The students who have successfully completed the courses shown in the curricula and have completed all the activities mentioned in this Regulation and other related legislations must also have completed a successful internship within 30 business days for graduation. The internship has not been credited with the program as it is a prerequisite for graduation. AGNOs must be at least 2.00 level and all other studies must be completed.
