The primary goal of the Department of Science Education is to train teachers who have positive attitudes toward teaching and have necessary professional skills for their field. Teachers who graduated from this department are expected to represent a true role model for their students in terms of their personal and professional life, to follow innovations in their fields to maintain professional development and have effective communication skills. The program also aims to develop teachers with a sound understanding of how children learn; confident in using technology; capable in problem-solving; attentive to human rights, democracy, and ethics. The program emphasises critical thinking, personal reflection, and professional development of preservice teachers. The program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. When the science student teachers complete this program, they are employed in secondary schools.

To train teachers of the Elementary Science Teaching who have the teaching profession necessary knowledge, skills and features, assimilate approach to science education, methods and techniques, think creative, critical and scientific, use information and communication Technologies, communicate effectively with students and the environment, engage in cooperation, be entrepreneurial and problem-solving, responsible, respectful of different opinions, follow innovations and developments in the field of education, enjoy reading and learning.

[] Admission Requirements
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

1 Knows and explains the concepts related to natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, environment, astronomy, earth science) and is scientifically literate to interpret the relationships between them.
2 Has scientific process skills to develop and apply appropriate laboratory experiments and activities for students in physics, chemistry and biology.
3 Knows students' misconceptions about physics, chemistry, biology, environment, astronomy and earth science and strategies to change them.
4 Evaluates the knowledge gained in science and science education with a critical approach, tries to continue his/her education throughout his/her life, uses technology effectively to monitor relevant developments and reach up-to-date information.
5 Has knowledge of teaching programs, teaching strategies, methods and techniques and measurement and evaluation related to science teaching.
6 Is aware of the theoretical foundations (philosophical, sociological, psychological, historical, legal, economic, etc.) on which education is based and reflects these theories in their practices.
7 Is aware of the attitude, responsibility, and ethical values related to the teaching profession and behaves accordingly.
8 Plans, implements, and evaluates the learning-teaching process effectively, considering the curricula' basic concepts, principles, and characteristics.
9 Designs and manages an effective and supportive learning environment based on learning and teaching theory, approach, strategy, methods, and instructional technologies in creating the learning-teaching process.
10 Follows the innovation, development, and 21st-century skills in the teaching profession and reflects these developments and skills to research and practice based on scientific principles.
11 Uses Turkish properly and effectively per the rules and communicates well with students.
12 Adheres to Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions and exhibits attitudes and behaviors toward democracy, human rights, and Turkish national, moral, and cultural values.
13 Knows at least one foreign language at a level to monitor and communicate with colleagues.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates
Students who have successfully completed all of the courses (for a total of 240 ECTS) in the program and have achieved a GPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 will receive a Bachelor's degree in the field of Science Teaching. They are employed in public and private primary schools.
[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can take graduate (master's and doctoral) programs, provided they have a valid grade in ALES examination and have sufficient level of English.

[] Graduation Requirements
The amount of national credits that students must complete in order to graduate from the Science Teaching Department is 153 in total. The ECTS credit amount is determined as 240 in total, 30 for each semester. The education period of the Science Teaching department is 4 years. During the 14-week course period in each semester, there will be midterm exams, homework, projects, etc. There are end-of-term final exams along with evaluation activities. To be eligible to graduate, students; They must attend the courses in their curriculum and be successful in all of them, their CGPA must be at least 2.50 and they must have completed all their other studies.

Students who successfully complete all courses in the program (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and obtain a GPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 are awarded a bachelor's degree in SCIENCE TEACHING.
