Since the past centuries, people have used plants as a source of nutrients for therapeutic purposes. With wide-angle gates, it increases even more day by day. According to World Health Organization (WHO) records, approximately 80% of people living in African countries use plants used for the treatment of their diseases. Despite tremendous progress in the development of synthetic medicines, about 25% of modern medicines are derived from plants.
Turkey has very rich medicinal and aromatic plant resources used for food, health products, spices and fragrance. In our country, 30% are endemic and 10,000 of them grow naturally. We make this wealth of medicine, export 70% of it. In addition, our country has a heritage in the use of herbal medicines. Especially in rural areas, many plants are used as folk medicine.
As the chemistry industry has grown, the time for herbal treatment has been reduced, as the compounds that enable plants to participate, and the natural compounds, are manufactured synthetically cheaper. However, nowadays, if we are to interact with it, it will bring us back to the agenda. In the past years, this need could be met by natural gathering, but today the increased population response and aggregate material are inadequate, and intensive and unconscious collecting has created the risk of some species disappearing, and it has come to light that the qualities of the crops collected in the past and the substances obtained therefrom are not standard.
Food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics In recent years, we have increased the importance of using aromatic products from natural products derived from plants instead of knives and synthetic based products in our country. In addition to human health, conservation of vegetal natural resources is at the forefront, and educated human resources are of great importance in terms of collecting, agriculture, production, processing, marketing and usage methods based on scientific knowledge instead of general knowledge based practices.
The aim of this program is; to increase the sustainability of flora of medicinal and aromatic plants naturally grown in our country by cultivating the plants from which the natural products of plant origin are obtained and to insulate and seed the active ingredients to be used in the treatment and to provide the standards. In our program; to produce new values in line with the aims of a contemporary and democratic university, to meet the needs of national and international institutions and organizations and to develop technicians who are open, entrepreneurial, innovative, respectful to human and moral values.
Higher Education Transfer Examination, according to the new system of medical and aromatic plants program, or YGS-6 point type, students are taken to normal education or program. Programday normal education duration is 2 years. Our students will graduate with 120 ECTS credits after 2 years.
