Goals The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the multidimensional relationship between sport and media by addressing its economic, cultural, technological, and ethical dimensions. Within this framework, the course aims to equip students with the ability to analyze the operational structures of media institutions, the processes of sports content production, and the ongoing digital transformation driven by new media technologies. Students are also expected to critically evaluate contemporary trends in sports communication and media practices. Furthermore, the course examines the role of sports media in shaping public opinion, sports marketing, advertising, corporate image, and social media engagement. Recent studies highlight that digitalization has significantly expanded the global reach of sports media, making it a key driver in the economic growth of the sports industry.
Course Content This course provides a comprehensive framework ranging from fundamental concepts of sports media to its applications at both national and global levels. The course content includes: Concepts, structure, and functions of media and sports media Historical development of sports media Media law and ethical principles Media literacy and content production processes Professional competencies in sports media Structure of sports media in Turkey and worldwide Sports marketing and advertising relationships Sports broadcasting and media technologies Interaction between sports and social media Corporate image and public relations in sports media Career opportunities in the media sector The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practice, aiming to develop students’ abilities to analyze sports media content, critically evaluate media practices, and understand the dynamics of the sports media industry.
