Goals The aim of this course is to examine the administrative structures of sports institutions and organizations in Turkey and worldwide from a comparative perspective, enabling students to understand sports management systems in their historical, legal, and institutional dimensions. Within this framework, the course aims to equip students with the ability to analyze different national sports management models, compare organizational structures at central and local levels, and evaluate the impact of sports policies on institutional frameworks. Furthermore, the course focuses on analyzing the governance structures of sports federations, Olympic committees, clubs, and other sports organizations in terms of effectiveness and efficiency, fostering students’ critical and analytical thinking skills. Recent studies indicate that institutional structures, governance quality, and legal frameworks in sports management play a crucial role in achieving sporting success, financial sustainability, and social participation.
Course Content This course provides a comprehensive framework based on the comparative analysis of administrative structures in sports management across different countries. The course content includes: Historical development of sports management in Turkey and worldwide Central sports governance structures and organizational models Legal frameworks and regulations in sports management National Olympic Committees and international sports organizations Structure and functioning of sports federations Sports clubs and professional sports organizations Sports management and business approaches Management of sports for individuals with disabilities and inclusion policies Sports services in local governments Sports management in universities and schools Ethics, sportsmanship, and fair play in sports Relationship between sports and health Economic aspects of sports (taxation, insurance, unions) Fan organizations and the social dimension of sports The course integrates theoretical knowledge with comparative country cases, aiming to develop students’ abilities to analyze different sports management systems, identify similarities and differences, and evaluate effective governance models.
