Goals The aim of this course is to examine the developmental, pedagogical, and cultural dimensions of play during early childhood; and to train professionals who can analyze and implement play-based learning processes.
Course Content In early childhood; the definition of play and theoretical approaches to play, the importance and functions of children’s play, educators’ perspectives on play, play and creativity, theories of play development, stages of play development and characteristics of play, types of play by age group, the impact of play on children’s developmental domains (cognitive, language, socio-emotional, physical), the role and importance of play in physical education, the historical development of play and theories of play, the use of play to address challenging behaviors, applications of play and movement-based games in Turkish culture, and play in different cultures
