Goals This course examines the unique dynamics of international migration in light of migration theories and from different perspectives; it also covers migration trends and dynamics in Turkey. The course will address various topics including the historical development of international migration, fundamental concepts, theories, diverse migration flows, migrant employment, social integration, and social policy.
Course Content This course examines migration from a sociological perspective, focusing on the historical development, key concepts, and theoretical approaches to international migration. Classical and contemporary migration theories, globalization and migration, forced migration and asylum, migration and labor markets, social integration, identity and culture, discrimination, migration policies in Turkey, and the social policy dimensions of migration are covered. Current migration movements in Turkey, particularly the case of Syrian migration, are discussed in terms of their social, economic, and political implications.
