| Goals | To examine the approaches of key schools and figures in the history of Islamic thought regarding human nature, psychology, and spiritual development; and to evaluate the contribution of this heritage to contemporary spiritual care processes. |
| Course Content | This course focuses on the unique approaches to human nature developed by the foundational figures and schools of the Islamic intellectual tradition. The theoretical framework consists of the soul (nafs) theories of philosophers such as Al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, and Ibn Sina, alongside the moral psychology of Al-Ghazali and the existential quest for meaning by thinkers like Rumi, Ibn Arabi, Yunus Emre, and Al-Qunawi. Furthermore, the spiritual journey (sayr al-suluk) methods, forms of worship, and spiritual disciplines of Sufi orders such as Mawlawiyya, Qadiriyya, Yasawiyya, and Naqshbandiyya are analyzed in the context of individual motivation, spiritual growth, and character building. Throughout the course, the mystical experiences and the ideal of the "perfect human" (al-insan al-kamil) offered by this traditional heritage are reinterpreted as concrete psychological perspectives and practical models applicable to contemporary spiritual care and counseling processes. |
