Goals The aim of this lesson is to teach the student about alkyl halides, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, alkenes, alkynes, etc. To provide theoretical knowledge for simple or multi-step chemical syntheses carried out in the laboratory, to write general reaction mechanisms and to introduce the stereochemistry of organic compounds.
Course Content Carbon Compounds and Chemical Bonds, Acids Bases Alkanes, Functional Groups, Intermolecular forces, Infrared Spectroscopy, Stereo chemistry: Chiral molecules, Ionic Reactions, Displacement and dissociation reactions, Alkenes, Alkynes,
Learning Outcomes
# Öğrenme Kazanımı
1 The students define the role of carbon in organic chemistry and biochemistry and identifies organic compounds.
2 The students classify the most important functional groups such as alkanes, alkenes, aromatics, alkynes, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amides, amines, alcohols, and alkyl halides.
3 The students draw the name and structure of molecules with major functional groups, including cis-trans and R-S notation.
4 The students evaluate the mechanism of the reaction using the basic information provided.
