| Goals | The objective of this course is to provide counseling candidates with the ability to distinguish between "normal" and "abnormal" behavior. Within the scope of the course, it is aimed to learn the current systems (DSM-5) used in the classification of mental disorders, to examine the biopsychosocial factors playing a role in the etiology of disorders, and to enable students to gain competence in distinguishing clinical symptoms through case studies. |
| Course Content | Introduction to psychopathology and historical perspectives; criteria used in defining abnormality; DSM-5 classification system; Anxiety Disorders (Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobias); Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders; Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders; Depressive Disorders and Bipolar Disorders; Somatic Symptom and Dissociative Disorders; clinical case formulation and the role of psychopathology in the counseling process. |
