Goals The aim of this course is to examine Turkish literature of the Second Tanzimat Period (1876–1896) within its historical, social, and aesthetic contexts, enabling students to understand the literary trends, authors, and genre developments of this era. Additionally, the course aims to develop students’ abilities to critically analyze texts, evaluate the relationship between literature and society, and acquire skills in comparative reading.
Course Content This course covers the social conditions and literary evolution of the second Tanzimat period in Turkish literature. It includes the analysis of changes in poetry, novels, short stories, and criticism through the works of pioneering figures such as Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem, Abdülhak Hamit Tarhan, and Ahmet Mithat Efendi.

2 Analyzes the literary identities and intellectual perspectives of authors such as Ahmet Mithat Efendi, Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem, and Samipaşazade Sezai.
3 Recognizes the literary genres developed during the Tanzimat II period (novel, story, theater, criticism) and discusses their thematic orientations.
4 Interprets selected texts from the period in terms of structure, content, and themes.
