Goals The aim of this course is to develop students’ ability to read, analyze, and interpret urban space at different scales based on fundamental urban design principles. The course introduces key concepts of urban design such as urban form, spatial organization, public space, movement systems, and environmental relationships, and aims to equip students with the ability to think at the urban scale.
Course Content The course covers fundamental concepts of urban design, including urban morphology, public space, movement systems, permeability, density, land use, and spatial organization. Students conduct site reading, analysis, and evaluation studies on a selected urban area. Analyses are supported by diagrams, maps, and schematic representations, and basic design proposals are developed.
