Goals The concept of building materials. The relationship between architectural design and materials, traditional and contemporary building materials used in architecture. Basic properties and behaviors of building materials. Natural stone, terracotta, glass, wood, metal, plastic, concrete, Portland cement and other cement types, aggregates, concrete production, classification, properties, types, uses and areas of application, application examples and concrete quality, classification of concrete and mortar additives, paints, plaster, lime, properties, production, types, uses and areas of application.
Course Content The concept of building materials. The relationship between architecture and materials. Basic properties and behaviors of building materials. Traditional and contemporary building materials used in architecture. Introduction, classification, properties, production, types, uses and areas of application, and application examples of natural stone, terracotta, glass, wood, metal, plastic, concrete building materials, paints, plaster, lime, cement, aggregates, concrete and mortar additives. Material selection.
