Goals The main objective of the course is to teach students the aims, planning, types, establishments, and management of nurseries and glasshouses as well as main production methods of seedlings

1. Week Introduction, the importance and current status of nurseries
2. Week Selection, layout and formation of a nursery (site selection, layout of nursery, establishing a new nursery)
3. Week Physical properties and arrangement of nursery soils
4. Week Chemical and biological properties of nursery soils and the regulation of these properties
5. Week seed sources, seed transfer, seed supply and harvest, seed extraction, drying and storage
6. Week Seed structure, determination of various seed characteristics, recognition of forest tree and ornamental plant seeds, seed dormancy and pretreatments
7. Week Preparation of seedbeds for seed sowing and planting, seed sowing and growing density, cultural treatments
8. Week Mid-term exam
9. Week Production of container growing plants (container types, facilities, growing media, …)
10. Week Cultural treatments (weed control, hoeing, cultivating, irrigation, fertilization, …)
11. Week Nursery practice about cultural treatments
12. Week Counting, lifting, grading, storage and transport of seedlings
13. Week Vegetative propagation (propagation by cutting and grafting)
14. Week Fertigation. Greenhouses. Fogging systems.
