Goals The main objective of this course is to provide prospective physical education teachers with a theoretical and practical understanding of the historical development, fundamental technical and tactical skills, rules, and game systems of volleyball. Students will experience the volleyball competition environment in terms of individual technical skills, team dynamics, communication, and sportsmanship. The course also aims to provide a pedagogical foundation for prospective teachers to create volleyball unit and activity plans for their future courses.
Course Content This course begins with an examination of the historical development and fundamental concepts of volleyball, followed by the theoretical and practical instruction of basic technical skills such as finger passes, forearm passes, serves (under, over, and jump), spikes, blocks, and dives. In addition to technical studies, tactical topics such as 3-3, 4-2, and 5-1 game systems, rotation rules, offensive combinations, and defensive arrangements are also covered. Official FIVB rules, refereeing principles, and competition management constitute the rule aspect of the course; while training planning, pedagogical approaches to volleyball instruction, and lesson organization are addressed to prepare students for the teaching profession. Throughout the semester, theoretical knowledge and on-field applications are integrated; mini-tournaments and technical evaluations support students' individual and team performances.
