Goals To understand the importance of language in individual and national life and the structural features of Turkish language, to teach the historical periods of Turkish; To comprehend the sound and shape structure of Turkish and to develop the student's ability to express what he listens, reads, sees and thinks both in words and in writing in a planned, effective and fluent way.
Course Content Definition and birth of language, language qualities; language types; types of language analysis, classification of languages on earth; The place of Turkish language among world languages; The basic features of the Turkish language; Historical features of Turkish written language; grammar.
Learning Outcomes

1 Know the definition of language, have an idea about the place and importance of language in the life of a nation as a social institution, realize the connection between language-culture and language-thought.
2 Learns the place of Turkish language among the world languages, realizes the richness and subtleties of Turkish, knows the difference of Turkish language from other languages.
3 Have knowledge about the development of Turkish language and its historical transfers.
4 Have information about the current state of Turkish language and its spreading areas.
5 Understand the sound features and rules of Turkish, and know how to use these rules in written expression.
6 Have knowledge about the structure features of Turkish
7 Calculates the effects of words that cause language pollution in the environment on the language and realizes the effects of culture on the language.

5. Week Historical development of Turkish; Examination of Old Turkic (Köktürk- Uyghur)
6. Week Historical development of Turkish; Examination of Middle Turkic (Karahanlıca-Harezmce-Kıpçakça-Çağatayca-Old Anatolian Turkish)
7. Week Historical development of Turkish; Examination of the new Turkish. (Çağatayca-Ottoman-Turkish Turkish)
8. Week The branches and sprawl of the Turkish used as a writing language in today's world are the main alphabets
9. Week MID-TERM EXAMINATION
10. Week Simplification on the ground, efforts to simplify post-republic Turkish Turkism, present problems of Turkish.
11. Week Sound knowledge, definition and nature of sound events, main sound events seen in Turkish words: sound derivation, sound drop, consonant oftening, consonant hardening, famous constrictionetc.
12. Week Main voicefeatures in Turkish words and ways of generating major words in Turkish.
13. Week Historical relation between Turkic languages and other languages, intercultural exchange, channeled elements of languages, quotations and types
