| Goals | Some students have special needs due to their different developmental characteristics from their peers and may need some arrangements and interventions in school and out-of-school environments. Gifted students are also students with special needs as children who develop differently. This course aims to provide guidance and psychological counselor candidates with the necessary information on understanding concepts such as talent and intelligence, recognizing the characteristics of gifted students, recognizing these students in the classroom environment, supporting the development of intelligence and talent, and providing services appropriate to the special guidance and psychological counseling needs that special needs bring. |
| Course Content | Definitions of intelligence and high-level intelligence; reasons for the need for education of the gifted; definition of gifted and talented individuals; cognitive, physical, social, emotional, moral and personality characteristics of gifted individuals; determination of gifted individuals; past and present of education of the gifted in Turkey; importance of early learning in the development of giftedness; effects of some environmental factors on cognitive development in preschool; administrative measures in education of the gifted (Enrichment, Acceleration, Homogeneous Ability Groupings, etc.); differentiation of content and individualization of instruction for the gifted; brief introduction of certain models used in education of the gifted; seven steps suggested by Barbara CLARK to maximize learning. |
