Goals The aim of this course is to enable students to comprehend the fundamental concepts and methods of statistics and to develop their skills in collecting, organizing, presenting, and analyzing data using descriptive statistical techniques. The course intends to equip students with the ability to interpret statistical findings through measures of central tendency, dispersion, and distribution, and to relate these findings to their professional field.
Course Content This course covers the definition, scope, and fundamental concepts of statistics. Data types, measurement scales, and data sources are examined. Data organization, construction of frequency tables, and grouped data series are discussed. Graphical representations such as histograms, bar charts, pie charts, Pareto charts, and scatter plots are introduced. Measures of central tendency (arithmetic mean, median, mode, geometric and harmonic mean), positional measures (quartiles, deciles, percentiles), and measures of dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation) are presented. In addition, concepts related to distribution shape, including skewness and kurtosis, as well as a basic introduction to correlation analysis, are addressed.
