| Goals | The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the political, military, and social developments from the late Ottoman period to the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye. The course examines the causes of the Turkish Revolution, the National Struggle, and the historical significance of the independence movement led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, aiming to develop students’ historical awareness and analytical thinking skills. |
| Course Content | The objectives and basic concepts of the course on Atatürk’s Principles and History of the Turkish Revolution; political developments in Europe and their effects on the Ottoman Empire; reform movements in the Ottoman Empire in the nineteenth century; the political and military situation in the final period of the Ottoman Empire; intellectual movements in the late Ottoman period; World War I and the participation of the Ottoman Empire in the war; occupations and reactions following the Armistice of Mudros; the beginning of the National Struggle and organization through congresses; the Amasya Circular, Erzurum and Sivas Congresses; the adoption of the National Pact (Misak-ı Millî); the opening and activities of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye; the Treaty of Sèvres and the fronts of the National Struggle; the establishment of the regular army; the Battle of Sakarya and political and diplomatic developments during the National Struggle. |
