Goals To enable students to have basic knowledge of science and philosophy, to design, conduct and report scientific work (articles, papers, reports, books), gain the basic rationale of qualitative and quantitative research methods and give them a form of inquisitive and inquisitive thinking.
Course Content This course examines the fundamental concepts of science and philosophy of science, focusing on the nature of scientific knowledge, the characteristics of scientific research, and the research process. Within this context, the stages of the scientific research process are discussed in detail, including identifying a research problem, conducting a literature review, formulating research questions and hypotheses, developing a research design, and selecting appropriate data collection methods. The course also introduces the basic logic of qualitative and quantitative research methods, research designs, sampling techniques, and data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, observations, and document analysis. In addition, fundamental approaches to data analysis are addressed. Furthermore, the course covers research ethics, ethical principles in scientific studies, and academic writing and reporting standards. Students gain the skills required to design, conduct, and report a scientific study such as a research paper, conference paper, report, or project. The course also focuses on interpreting research findings, presenting scientific results effectively, and developing analytical and critical thinking skills. Overall, the course aims to help students develop a questioning, analytical, and research-oriented way of thinking while gaining the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for conducting scientific research.
