Goals The aim of this course is to provide students with the basic material knowledge.
Course Content Atomic bond structures, Crystal structures, Crystal structure defects, Mechanical properties, Phase diagrams, Kinetics of transformations and Heat treatments, Metals and their alloys, Polymers, Semiconductor Materials Iron-carbon (Fe-C) balance diagrams, Non-ferrous metals, Forming and heat treatments Definition and classification of materials, properties of materials, determination of properties of materials and equipments which are important in the installation and use of energy production systems, material selection.

1 To be able to establish the relationship between chemical composition and atomic bond information and properties of materials.
2 Understanding the regular and irregular crystal structures and their differences.
3 Understanding the effects of crystal defects on material properties.
4 Know the methods of determination of mechanical properties.
5 Understand the importance of phase concept and phase diagrams.
6 To be able to classify iron-steel and non-ferrous alloy systems.
7 Understand thermal, electrical-electronic and magnetic properties of materials and relate them to material structure.
