Goals This course aims to explore the concept of intertextuality in cinema and its relationships with literature, other arts, cultural texts, and various audiovisual productions. Students will discuss the theoretical foundations of intertextuality, analyze film examples in relation to other texts, and evaluate the aesthetic, ideological, and cultural functions of intertextual connections.
Course Content The course will cover theories of intertextuality, literary adaptations in cinema, inter-genre relations, references to popular culture, and practices such as remakes, parody, and pastiche. It will also discuss cinema’s relationship with philosophy, painting, music, and media in the context of global cultural circulation. Students will be expected to conduct theoretical readings, perform film analyses, and develop original research projects.
