Goals This course aims to explore animation cinema through aesthetic, historical, and theoretical dimensions. Students will critically examine the role of animation in visual culture, its genres and techniques, technological transformations, and ideological functions. The goal is to enable doctoral students to conduct original academic research on animation cinema and contribute to the field.
Course Content The course covers the historical development, theoretical approaches, and diverse techniques of animation cinema. Topics include the aesthetics of animation, national traditions of animation, ideology and representation, animation and cultural memory, as well as digital animation and new media practices. Students will be expected to carry out film analyses, engage in scholarly discussions, and produce research projects.
