Goals The aim of this course is to examine the historical development, fundamental policies, and institutional structure of religious education in Turkey during the Republican era. The course covers the regulations, educational policies, and practices implemented in the field of religious education from the founding of the Republic to the present day, with the aim of enabling students to evaluate this process from a historical and pedagogical perspective.
Course Content This course examines the development of religious education in Turkey during the Republican era. The course covers religious education policies in the early years of the Republic, the Law of Unification of Education, and the transformation of religious education institutions. It also evaluates the emergence and development of imam-hatip schools, the establishment of theology faculties, the place of Religious Culture and Ethics courses in the education system, and the legal and institutional reforms carried out in the field of religious education. In addition, the social, cultural, and political context of religious education policies is addressed, and the problems and current debates surrounding religious education during the Republican era are analyzed.
