Goals The objective of this course is to examine the effects of religion on human psychology, character development, and behavior patterns within the framework of basic personality theories. It aims to enable students to analyze the complex relationship between personality traits and religious orientations in the light of psychological theories and empirical research.
Course Content This course covers the approaches of psychoanalytic, humanistic, existential, cognitive, and trait personality theories to the phenomenon of religion. The relationships between intrinsic, extrinsic, and quest religious orientations and the Big Five Personality Model are examined. Furthermore, the concept of God in the context of attachment theory, personality change during religious conversion processes, the role of religion on character strengths and virtues, and religious coping strategies are discussed.
