| Goals | The aim of this course is to develop students' conceptual analysis and analytical thinking skills by reading the founding and classic texts of the history of logic directly from primary sources. By examining the texts passed down from the Aristotelian tradition to the Islamic world and written by thinkers such as Fârâbî, Ibn Sina, Gazzâlî, Ebherî and Kâtibi, it is aimed for students to master classical logic terminology and reasoning methods. |
| Course Content | In this course, text analyzes are carried out on the basic works of classical logic literature. Porphyrios' Isagoci (Eisagoge), Aristotle's works on Categories and Interpretation (or their equivalents in Fârâbî), the logic section of Avicenna's el-İşârât, Gazzâlî's Mi'yâru'l-İlm and Ebherî's Isagoci, which are the basic textbooks of the madrasah tradition. Selected sections from texts such as Kâtibi's al-Şemsiyye are read. Concepts, propositions, syllogisms and demonstrations are discussed directly through the original language and terminology of these sources. |
