Goals To facilitate the student's understanding of Islamic Philosophy's theoretical philosophy such as epistemology, method, classification of sciences, philosophy-religion relationship, and practical philosophy problems such as morality and politics, and to provide systematic knowledge about criticisms of various philosophical movements.
Course Content 1. Sources of Islamic Philosophy: Ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Indian traditions and knowledge of Greek philosophy 2. Promotion of science and philosophical thought by the Quran, Sunnah and Kalam 3. Evaluation of Islamic Philosophical schools in terms of epistemology, existence and practical philosophy issues 4. Systematic subjects of philosophy and its sciences classification 5. Philosophical problems arising from the relationship between logic and language 6. Epistemological problems regarding the value of religious and historical knowledge in terms of peripatetic epistemology 7. Controversies and problems about the position and place of social sciences and religious sciences in the classification of philosophical sciences 8. MIDTERM EXAM 9. Relations between philosophy and religion in terms of metaphysics and cosmology 10. Problems of practical philosophy regarding the relationship between morality, political sciences and religion 11. Criticisms against Islamic philosophy: Compromise of Ghazali and Ibn Rushd 12. Ishraqi school's criticism of classical philosophy 13. Ibn Taymiyyah and his criticism of philosophy and logic 14. Modern period and Islamic philosophy
