Goals This course aims to give information about the basic sources of Turkish theater, Anatolian Village theater tradition, traditional Turkish theater types, the basic features and structure of traditional Turkish theater, and the relationship of contemporary theater with traditional theater. It also aims to teach subjects such as the transition from traditional Turkish Theater to written theater with Westernization movements, theater, texts of Ottoman theater, acting, staging and theater organization during the Tanzimat and Constitutional Period.
Course Content The course focuses on the the sources of Turkish theatre, the tradition of Anatolian peasant theatre, and basic characteristics, types and structure of traditional Turkish theatre and its relation to contemporary theatre. In addition, the course also covers the transition from traditonal turkish theatre to text-based theatre, theatre in Tanzimat and Mesrutiyet Periods, and main trends in dramatic texts, acting, staging, theatre organization in Ottoman Period.

11 Improves his/her skills in critical and creative thinking, as well as expressing his/her thoughts in oral, embodied and written forms.
12 Has the knowledge of theatre’s connections with other arts (literature, cinema, opera, music, dance, painting, sculpture, etc.), as well as social sciences (philosophy, anthropology, sociology, aesthetics, art history, political sciencee, etc.) and makes research and production in his/her own field by using this interdisciplinary viewpoint.
13 Uses the up-to-date information and communication technologies that are required in the art of drama.
14 Improves the skill of connecting with the social, economical, political and especially cultural heritage of the history of civilisations and spends effort to make these values prevalent within the social environment s/he lives through projects and activities that s/he would prepare.
