Goals The aim of this course is to teach students the fundamental concepts of direct current (DC) circuits, the relationships between electrical quantities, and basic circuit analysis methods; to enable them to analyze DC circuits using Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Laws, and fundamental circuit theorems; to develop habits of using measuring instruments correctly and safely; and to provide them with analytical thinking skills that will form the basis for applications in the field of electrical and electronics.
Course Content The course covers fundamental electrical concepts (current, voltage, resistance, power, and energy), with a detailed examination of Ohm's Law and Kirchhoff's Current and Voltage Laws. Series, parallel, and series-parallel resistor circuits are analyzed; linear circuit solution techniques are taught using node voltage and mesh current methods. Circuit theorems (Superposition, Thevenin, Norton, and Maximum Power Transfer theorems) are explained theoretically and applied to example problems. Source transformations, dependent and independent sources, bridge circuits, and the effects of measuring instruments on the circuit are examined. Furthermore, power calculations of basic circuit elements are performed to analyze energy efficiency. - Can measure resistance, current, voltage, and power in DC circuits.
