Goals 1. To acquire basic knowledge and concepts about the definition, amount, properties and classification of solid waste, 2. To learn the principles of integrated urban solid waste management, to teach urban solid waste recycling/recovery, treatment and disposal technologies and to gain conceptual design skills, 3. Gaining planning and conceptual design skills related to the rehabilitation of irregular waste landfills 4. Giving more effective concepts in solid waste management with laboratory applications.
Course Content I. Comprehending the descriptive, legal and administrative basic information about solid waste management, II. Understanding the integrated solid waste management system and its components, cost analysis III. Evaluation of basic principles regarding the amount and characteristics of urban solid waste, IV. Basic planning and design of waste collection, transportation and recovery systems, V. Conceptual design and operation of biological treatment systems, VI. Basic design and operation of regular and irregular storage facilities, VII. System selection in thermal conversion technologies, VIII. Measurement and interpretation of the basic parameters used in the characterization of solid wastes in the laboratory IX. Application and operation of biological processes used in solid waste management.
Learning Outcomes - Explain the general principles of solid waste management.

- Gains the necessary skills to make a project related to solid wastes.
- Knows and applies the minimization techniques of solid wastes.
- Designs and operates a solid waste disposal facility.
