Goals The aim of this course is to provide students with basic information about the historical development process of communication and related mass media, and to gain a general perspective about the studies of the history of communication.
Course Content The course covers the general development process of humanity and the development of communication. In this context, what human communication is, how it started, and what forms it developed are discussed in detail. In addition, the stages of development of the basic tools of both communication and mass communication from primitive periods to the present are discussed together with the associations of the social background.

1 Students who have successfully participated in the course will have a perspective on the complex development of the media in Europe and beyond.
2 They obtain an analytical approach about the simultaneous evolutionary process of media and can carry this knowledge to current media development in a global context.
3 They can successfully describe current media developments in the light of the knowledge of media formation processes and analyze the changing relationships in social system units.
4 They gain the ability to analyze complex variable relationships between technological, cultural and political processes and to use systematic information on current events.
