Goals In this course, the question of how the media is “organized” in terms of both industry and product / content will be addressed with a political economy approach. Throughout the course, the development of media policies in contemporary capitalist societies will be presented with examples from around the world.
Course Content The relationship between media and politics, policy and economic factors affecting media production and production processes, global actors of media policies, transformation of media, new media policies are covered.
Learning Outcomes - Knows the development of mass communication and media from past to present.
- Knows the global media actors and their order.
- Evaluates the relationship between media, politics and economic power centers.
- Gains a critical point of view about the general functioning of production and production processes in the media.
- Evaluates new media policies.
