Goals The aim of this course is to learn the oral history method and to examine the importance of documentary in an informative and up-to-date way, focusing on its relationship with life and reality in a broad perspective ranging from early avant-garde documentaries to social media films.
Course Content This course will examine historically significant documentary films and established discourses, as well as the recent resurgence of documentary as a popular entertainment style and discourse mechanism, and explain how the oral history method can be used in documentary.
Learning Outcomes - Understands the oral history method. Analyzes the key concepts of documentary cinema. Analyzes the close relationship between documentary and social, cultural, political, economic and technological transformations.
- Analyzes how oral history is used in documentary films. Compares similarities and contrasts between documentary and fiction films. Critically examines documentaries from different periods and styles within their contexts.
