Goals | The aim is to teach students the regeneration, tending and rehabilitation of Turkish forests. |
Course Content | Introduction, purpose and role of silviculture in forestry, silviculture as applied ecology, scope and terminology of silvicultural practice, role of cutting in silviculture, silviculture in application, Disturbances and regeneration, natural and artificial regeneration, ecological conditions of natural regeneration, preparation of regeneration site , Silvicultural systems, Turkish forests, pure and mixed species stands, Silvicultural systems and regeneration methods used in Turkish forestry, Selection system and its application in Turkey, Clear cutting system and its application conditions, advantage and disadvantage of the system, application in Turkey, Shelterwood system and its application conditions, Mixed species stands in Turkey, regeneration of mixed species stands and applications in Turkey, Stand development stages, forest tending and its role and importance in forestry practices, forest tending practices in Turkey, weed control, cleaning, Thinning methods, effect of thinning on individual tree and stand development, timing and planning of thinning, thinning in common species stands. |
