Goals The aim of this course is to examine the origins, historical developments, and semantic changes of words in Turkish; to analyze the etymological structure of the Turkish language; and to enable students to recognize elements from various historical periods within the Turkish lexicon. Throughout the course, word roots, language family connections, and methods of etymological analysis will be explored through examples.
Course Content In this course, introducing the science of etymology and etymological studies in Turkish; Based on examples, it is aimed to comprehend the phonological, morphological and semantic changes of Turkish words.
Learning Outcomes - The student analyzes the origins and semantic evolution of words in Turkish.
- The student compares linguistic features from different periods in Turkish within an etymological context.
- The student evaluates loanwords used in Turkish and the processes of Turkification.
