Goals The concept of building material. Architectural design and material relationship, traditional and contemporary building materials used in architecture. Basic properties and behaviors of building materials. Natural stone, terracotta, glass, wood, metal, plastic, concrete, portland cements and other cement types, aggregates, concrete production, classification, properties, types, purposes and areas of application, application examples and concrete quality, concrete and mortar classification of additives, paints, gypsum, lime, properties, production, types, purposes and areas of application, application, application examples. Material selection.
Course Content To introduce the concept of building material. Architectural design and material relationship, to introduce traditional and contemporary building materials used in architecture. To teach basic properties, behaviors, uses and areas of building materials, to give information about application methods
Learning Outcomes - To understand the importance of building material in terms of architectural design and construction process
- To know the types and properties of materials used in buildings
- To be able to interpret the function of the building according to the properties of the building materials
- Choosing the right and functional materials in the process of building design and production
- To be able to research contemporary materials for modern buildings
- To have prior knowledge about quality control tests of some building materials
