Goals The aim of this course is to enable pre-service teachers to think about and evaluate the Social Studies Curriculum, to plan, implement and evaluate learning activities using different teaching methods and techniques within the scope of the course.
Course Content The general introduction of the course, the main objectives and basic features of the Social Studies course, the basic skills in the Social Studies course, the literacy in the Social Studies, the study area and organization of the Social Studies, the basic themes in the Social Studies course, the subjects in the Social Studies course, the place of the Social Studies course in the primary education, the Social Studies teaching what is it and why is it necessary?, Social Studies Curriculum prepared by the Ministry of National Education and its origins; concept teaching, concept maps and their use, concept cartoons, graphical representations, module preparation, multiple intelligence theory, project-based learning approach, problem-based learning approach, field trip, virtual field trip, oral history method, station technique, six thinking hat technique, Idea development technique in Social Studies course.
Learning Outcomes - Explain the characteristics of Social Studies lesson.
- Evaluate Social Studies lesson and curriculum
- Explain the characteristics of Social Studies teaching.
- Develop creative instructional activities compatible with Social Studies curriculum and developmental characteristics of primary school 4th grades’children
- Use different instructional methods and techniques to ensure students to be democratic and effective citizens in Social Studies lesson.
- Practice the creative learning activities that he/she has prepared for Social Studies lesson in actual classroom enviroment
