Goals This course aims to introduce students to human development in physical, cognitive, and social abilities from infancy through childhood.
Course Content Basic concepts and principles related to development, factors affecting development: hereditary factors, environmental factors, historical time factor; theories of development: Freud's psychosocial development theory, Erikson's psycho-social development theory, Piaget's cognitive development theory, Maslow's personality development theory, Levinson's developmental theory, ecological approach (Bronfenbrenner); prenatal development, physical development in childhood, cognitive development, personality development, moral development; physical development in adolescence, specific developmental tasks in adolescence, cognitive development, personality development, moral development and psycho-social development in adolescence
Learning Outcomes - Define important processes, periods and issues in development.
- Define the research methods of developmental psychology.
- Explain the genetic basis of development and the genetic-environment debate.
- Explain physical and cognitive development in infancy.
- Explain physical and cognitive development in prenatal period.
- Explain pscyhosocial development in infancy.
